Serbia: Serbian currency further strengthens


The Serbian dinar (RSD) today strengthened against the euro (EUR) by 54 paras, thus touching a new record high of RSD 101.3559 per one euro.

This is according to a National Bank of Serbia (NBS) statement issued in Belgrade.

The dinar hit its lowest level against the common European currency this year on January 6, with the official middle exchange rate at RSD 106.4947.During the weekend, the Friday official middle exchange rate was valid, and EUR 1 equaled RSD 101.8985.Since the beginning of 2011, the central bank has intervened in the interbank foreign exchange market only once when it purchased EUR 5mn in order to ease excessive daily volatility of the exchange rate.
